Rambles Round Barnet Update 29th June 2019
Darlands Conservation Trust
The previous update of 20th December 2018 referred to the Trust that had been set up on 4th September 2017 by the London Borough of Barnet. The trustees included representatives of some local Residents Associations, The London Wildlife Trust and 2 local councillors. The area is described in detail in Rambles Round Barnet Volume 2 Walk 6.

Looking for answers - The Great War casualties
St Mark’s Church, Barnet Vale, is launching an appeal to find out more about the families and relatives of the 29 men whose names are commemorated on a First World War plaque about which little is known.

Lime Grove Footpath and the Darlands Nature Reserve
Local ramblers who have followed the guiding notes in ‘Rambles Round Barnet’ Part 1 for Walk 1 may well be familiar with the changing fortunes of the footpath that leads from Totteridge Common to the Dollis Valley. It is referred to in paragraph 7 of this walk and runs parallel to, and just to the west of, Lime Grove.

Barnet Blue Badge fraud
Barnet a hot spot for lost and stolen disabled badges...but a woeful response. More blue disabled badges were lost or stolen in Barnet last year than in any other London borough, but the latest government statistics show the council’s efforts to enforce the law against misuse are way behind that of some neighbouring local authorities.

Rambles Round Barnet Part 2
Rambles Round Barnet 2 went on sale for the first time at the Christmas Fair on Sunday 1st December 2013.
It was gratifying to talk to local people who had bought Part 1 at the last Christmas Fair or, subsequently, from The Paper Shop, Waterstones or the Barnet Museum and were keen to see some more of the surrounding countryside using this new guide.

No recycling w/c 7th October
As part of the preparations to deliver Barnet’s new waste and recycling service, Barnet Council will be training all waste service collection staff in the week beginning the 7 October. A Press Release from Barnet Council stated today.
This means that residents will not have their recycling collected during this week while staff members get prepared for the new recycling service which starts on the 14 October.

Barnet Council to change decision process
The council is proposing to change the way that decisions are taken and introduce a Committee System form of governance. Barnet are currently operating an Executive System of governance.
Under this system, the majority of decisions in the council are taken by the single-party Executive (or Cabinet) either in the Cabinet meeting or by individual Cabinet Members.

Proposed improvements for pedestrians in Barnet High Street
In spite of the Barnet Society having drawn up plans for improving the junction of the High Street and Wood Street at the top of Barnet Hill over a year ago and the new Barnet College having opened last September, the Council have made very little progress on the proposals.
