Parking Wars

The Barnet Society’s campaign for a 30 minute free parking period in the High Street is featured in the latest series is Parking Wars at 8pm on ITV 1 on Thursday 15 September.
Leading members of the Society are seen in the High Street seeking signatures for a petition in support of half an hour’s free parking in both the High Street and Barnet Council’s car parks.
Nick Jones, chair, is joined by the vice chair Gail Laser and the honorary secretary Jonathan Supran.
They are seen arguing their case on behalf of local residents and traders warning that the current parking restrictions and charges are driving business away and that the town centre is in danger of dying as nearby shopping centres offer free parking periods.
One of the points put by Nick Jones is that Barnet Council is tormenting the town by failing to respond sympathetically to repeated calls for an easing of the restrictions.
