Coronation quiches seemed to be outnumbered by sponge cakes, all decorated imaginatively with flags and other royal regalia, at many of the street parties which were held in and around High Barnet to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

Recipes for the King and Queen Consort’s Coronation quiche had been widely publicised as an ideal treat at Coronation Big Lunch events, but in the end cake makers appeared to have won the day.

At the street party for residents of Wentworth Road and Byng Road, pride of place on the cake stall went to an eye-catching sponge cake made by Natasha Coates, seen above with her six-year-old son Daniel.

A bouncy castle and Punch and Judy were among the attractions.

There was a big Thank You for the three organisers of the Coronation Tea Party in Rockways and Wylo Drive, at Arkley, which entertained well over 100 residents, relatives, and friends.

Mel Garfield said everyone at the party had mentioned how impressed they had been by King Charles’ determination to inject an inter-faith community spirit into the Coronation service at Westminster Abbey.

“Our street party here in Arkley reflects that. We are truly multi faith. We are all celebrating together with traditional dishes from each community.

“I am Jewish, and we have lots of different faiths, Anglican, Muslim, Hindu, and Free Church, and we all get on so well.”

Anji and Raj Iqbal, plus Azlam, were judged to be best dressed for the event.

Shoppers at The Spires were entertained with a Coronation concert given by the Barnet Big Choir under their choir director Sofia Hutchinson.

They raised money for Cancer Research UK.

While there did not seem to be anywhere the same amount of bunting as there had been a year ago for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the late Queen Elizabeth, some householders were determined to express their support for King Charles’ Coronation.

Celebrations at Monken Hadley church included a gala concert followed on Coronation bank holiday Monday with a working party and spring clean in support of the Big Help Out in Your Community.
