Barnet Society 75th anniversary walks
Enjoy five short walks in our local countryside recommended by Owen Jones.
In May the Barnet Society celebrated its 75th birthday. Since our founding in 1945 was prompted by the threat to build on the green space that surrounds Chipping Barnet on three sides, it also seems appropriate to celebrate that countryside. The following five articles are a collaboration between Owen Jones, a longstanding member of the Society and editor of Rambles Round Barnet Parts 1 & 2, and Robin Bishop, who write about the threats today to the landscape in which each walk is set.
Walk no.1 – Whitings Hill Open Space & Whitings Wood: /may-blossom-celebrating-75-years-of-the-barnet-society
Walk no.2 – Barnet Gate Wood: /barnet-s-hidden-rhododendron-spectacle
Walk no.3 – Arkley to Highwood Hill: /barnet-s-new-regional-park
Walk no.4 – Galley Lane to Saffron Green: /fasten-your-green-belt-and-prepare-for-new-buildings-to-land
Walk no.5 – The Dollis Valley: /how-green-is-our-valley-but-for-how-much-longer
