An online petition has already attracted almost 1,500 signatures in support of efforts to improve funding for schools across the Borough of Barnet including three nursery schools where further cuts are feared – St Margaret’s Nursery School, East Barnet, Brookhill Nursery school, East Barnet, and Hampden Way Nursery School, Southgate.
The campaign was launched at a meeting in East Barnet of parents, teachers and residents which decided to raise awareness after the loss of one nursery school within the borough and their fears that more nurseries might be threatened by further cuts and possible closures.

“Our schools should not have to rely on parent donations and volunteers to keep them open and our fight goes on to secure the appropriate level of funding for Barnet’s nurseries,” said Amy Hayes, a parent at both Cromer Road and Livingstone Primary Schools, who created the online petition.

The online petition -- https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/save-our-barnet-nursery-schools-1 -- calls on Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, and Barnet Council, to take up the case for adequate funding.
The three nursery schools in the Barnet Early Years Alliance have been rated as outstanding by Ofsted and the Brookhill and Hampden Way Nursery Schools were designated as a national training school in April 2015.
