No collections next week No collections next week
As part of the preparations to deliver Barnet’s new waste and recycling service, Barnet Council will be training all waste service collection staff in the week beginning the 7 October.  A Press Release from Barnet Council stated today. This means that residents will not have their recycling collected during this week while staff members get prepared for the new recycling service which starts on the 14 October.

The council’s current recycling collection contract with May Gurney will end on 5 October and staff from May Gurney will be transferred over to Barnet Council.

They will be trained alongside existing council staff on how to safely use the new fleet of waste and recycling vehicles, assist residents with questions and be made familiar with new collection routes.

Staff will also be using the week to prepare large flats blocks for their new recycling service.

I want thank residents for their patience

Barnet Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Dean Cohen, said: “By now the majority of residents will have their new blue bins, brown food waste bins and food waste kitchen caddies. I want thank residents for their patience.

“We are making major changes this month – brining recycling in-house, changing routes, using new vehicles, moving to co-mingled recycling waste and a separate food waste, and so I hope residents will stay patient over the next couple of weeks as the new service beds in.

“Although the staff that are transferring over from May Gurney are experienced and very knowledgeable, we want to take this opportunity for all of our staff to familiarise themselves with the new vehicles and routes, so that they can deliver a high quality service to residents.”
