It was close but it was the correct way to go. I think the councillors just don’t grasp the connection that Barnet people have with the land. I only hope that the Mayor’s office see fit to completely throw out the scheme instead of siding with it, albeit with changes. Hill’s figures are wrong:- it is a 14 acre site, but that includes the 3 acres of private land belonging to whalebones house, so it’s an 11 acre plot and therefore 50% wouldn’t be park land. There was also the ludicrous proposal from a council member that if planning was granted that a building and/or road be named after Miss Cowing! Talk about adding insult to injury.
