I'm very relieved that the public representations and those of Theresa Villiers have had the result of the proposal to close the High Street being reversed. Apart from all the traffic considerations - Mays Lane and all the roads down to it from Wood St would also be adversely affected by any closure of the High Street - there is a GP surgery in Union Street that can only be accessed from the High Street. The elderly and disabled who can only get there by car would have been prevented from accessing it. There can never be any good reason to close the High Street to traffic. I hope this issue will never recur.
