Beautiful as the trees may look, I don’t think the pavement widening to accommodate the trees
has helped the flow of traffic. Vehicles are now stationary for periods due to impasse situations because of lorries parked whilst delivering. Buses turning right into the high street from side roads negotiating a tight turn because of parked/unloading vehicles opposite, whilst traffic is held some distance from the side road to assistant the buses tight manoeuvre causing stationery traffic, with engines running, for longer periods than previously in the high street. So with the two sets of existing pedestrian lights and this new extremely slow moving traffic, I don’t think the trees will do much to offset the increased pollution now caused by the new restricted traffic flow through the high street, in fact the increased fumes/pollution may kill the trees.
