Thought my story might be interesting. My Father, Robert Victor Ward worked for United Dairies out of Tottenham Depot around 1920's to 1950"s. He started with a horse and cart ,thenprams(hand barrows ultimately electric milk floats. To start his day he had to deliver half a pint to all his customers ensuring them fresh milk for breakfast before going round again o top up their requirements for the day. His work at the depot was broken by call up during the war years 1940- 1945 when he returned to his round at the end of hostilities. He suffered two accident on the milk, the first was when his horse slipped on the ice and pulled him off the top of the cart breaking ribs and the second was when his horse lashed out with hind legs severing his finger. It was a while before he could carry 5 Empty bottles in that hand again. No health and safety and of course no compensation back then. Unfortunately he died at the young age of 61 having been born in the year 1900; the year Queen Victoria came to the throne. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED I have a few Photos.
