Our main photo is of Church Passage and Vaughn's. Plowden James Baughen was the builder of our house in Carnarvon Road in the 1870s. He built a rw of houses on Alston Road, and then added ours as the 'return' up Carnarvon, and lived there himself. The 1901 census shows him living at our house with his wife and a aged 'servant'. Records also show that two of his sons lived in Wood Street. One was a bricklayer, the other a carpenter. Presumably they assisted him in the building business, whilst other members of the family ran the shops.
