I live opposite the development. Six months into the building work now and it is making living here very difficult - it is noisy, dusty and highly intrusive with huge heavy lorries arriving from 7am in the morning and throughout the day. Union Street is in a conservation area, it is one way, very small and not built for such traffic and neither are the house which we live in. The entrance to the site is ill-conceived and not appropriate for such a big build. I have regularly had to object to lorries mounting the pavement to reverse into the site, hitting my neighbour's fence and inches from the houses which run to the pavement. Parking spaces have been arbitrarily removed, the road blocked and now two spaces have been removed permanently. There has been no attempt by the commissioners of this project or the future occupants to engage with local residents either before or after the site was approved to ensure that their quality of life/houses is not impacted during this build and beyond. The build will continue for another year and I fear that in that time my business, which I run from home will be severely impacted, particularly by the noise, my house (currently shaking from a lorry sitting outside) and most importantly the character and fabric of the road itself will be damaged. This article makes no mention of the opposition to planning permission from local residents.
