I would be interested to learn what plans are afoot for the development of Barnet Road at this point, to cater for the large increase in traffic turning out into the busy main road. Apparently Barnet Council received £5 million from the developers towards any changes to infrastructure, but there is no obligation to use the money for this specific development. Drivers generally do not observe the 30mph limit as they speed up in the dual carriageway and there are regular serious accidents along this stretch of road as cars pull out quickly from the top of steep hills (such as Elmbank) to feed into the constant stream of traffic in both directions. The new residents might be persuaded to use public transport, but the very valuable 307 bus route which catered for those living beyond The Arkley Hotel (who were not consulted at the time) was redirected into Barnet General (subsequent usage has certainly not justified the change), leaving only the often overcrowded 107. When traffic backs up to The Arkley at rush hour times delaying the 107, it frequently ends its route at The Arkley, ejecting all the commuters needing to get to High Barnet and New Barnet stations, or passengers with appointments at Barnet General left one stop short (ironical when you consider that the main reason given for the 307 change was to make life easier for patients using the hospital!)
